Drills
With advancements in composite and plastic materials, and
increases in machine tool speed and feed capabilities, PCD drills have
jumped to the forefront of tooling technology. GenHam has produced specialty
drills for several years with tremendous success. Our customers report
better tool life, improved surface finish, less machine downtime, and the
ability to machine materials that could only be pre-fabricated before. These
drills operate with excellent accuracy and consistency.
Like most of our tools, drills can be reconditioned 2-3
times over the life of the tool. Many varieties of point angles, combination
drills, counterbores and countersinks can be made to your specification.
PCD twist drills are available in sizes ranging from
.100" to .750". Custom designs are available in larger diameters that
incorporate a two step drill.
End Mills
High-speed cutting with end mills is an area in which PCD
far exceeds competitive tooling materials. As nearly the hardest existing
material, PCD is very abrasion-resistant due to the consistent crystal grain
structure. This gives the tool a uniform and wear-resistant cutting edge.
With the addition of a carbide body, end mills made by GenHam are very
rigid, which provides excellent combined machining characteristics.
PCD-tipped tooling has up to 100 times the life of
carbide in certain applications. Additional benefits include improved
surface finish and part tolerance control, and less burring of material
edges. With the minimal friction and positive radial rake of our end mills,
cutting pressure is also reduced.
Special forms are available such as radii, angles and
contours. All PCD end mills are straight flute (not helical) but can be set
at varying angles to compensate.

Reamers
PCD reamers are available in a wide variety of styles
including burnishing drills, drill/reamer and reamer/counterbore
combinations. We will be glad to custom design specific tooling from part
prints or from tooling prints.

Counterbores and other
Form Cutters
PCD counterbores and other form cutters are designed and
quoted on an individual basis. We have made a wide variety of tooling in
this category ranging from 32.00 inch [813 mm] diameter face mills to 4 step
reamer/counterbore combinations with
±
.0001" tolerances on all diameters.

PCD Work-Rest Blades
PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) work-rest and centerless
grinding blades have become a very productive and popular tooling item for
GenHam to manufacture. The use of PCD versus carbide improves tooling life
50 to 100 times. These blades can be reconditioned to increase their
efficiency, as the initial PCD layer is .059 [1.5 mm] thick. Add all of
these advantages to our superior workmanship and proven performances and you
will realize the cost-effectiveness.
Some of the benefits achieved from the use of PCD blades are:
- increased machine productivity time
- enhanced ability to automate
- reduced cost per part
- improved dimensional control
- capacity growth without machine tool investment
We can manufacture V-rest blades
and single-edge, angled blades
up to 32" long. We have made multi-step work rest blades and single
edge blades as thin as .050 [1.27 mm]. We also make a variety of other wear
parts, vee-rests, and contact pads for a variety of applications.
